Books I plan to read in August

I'm linking up again with The Deliberate Reader to share the books I'll be reading this month.

I did much better in July. I read 7 of my 8 planned books, and I'm 16% through the 8th book. I also finished up the last book from my June list (Hit) and read 3 additional books.

For August, I plan on reading these 9 books, at least.

The Truth According to Us by Annie Barrows
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library.
Why did I get it: I loved The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, so I was so excited when I learned that Annie Barrows had written her own novel.

Graceling by Kristin Cashore
How did I get it: I borrowed the e-audiobook from Overdrive.
Why did I get it: This book has been on my TBR list since December 2013. I've read a few great reviews of this book lately, so I figured it was time I actually read it.

Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library.
Why did I get it: This book is my YA Book Club pick for August.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library.
Why did I get it: I added this book to my TBR list earlier this year after seeing it on display at Barnes and Noble. I loved the cover and assumed it was a fairy tale retelling. It isn't, but I'm still excited to read it.

The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library.
Why did I get it: I am a huge fan of Barnes' The Naturals series, so I knew I had to read this book. I have read a lot of great reviews, so I cannot wait to read this one. And I'm excited that it's another series.

The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library.
Why did I get it: This book is my 2015 Reading Challenge selection for August.

Joyride by Anna Banks
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library.
Why did I get it: I reserved it from the library in June after reading a good review.

Yes Please by Amy Poehler
How did I get it: I will be listening to it on Audible.
Why did I get it: I wasn't going to read this book, but since my friend Sarah bought it on Audible, and she let's me use her account, I figured why not?

Cinder by Marissa Meyer
How did I get it: I will be listening to it on Audible. Thanks again, Sarah!
Why did I get it: This book will be a re-read. I'll be participating in The Lunar Chronicles Read Along hosted by The Book Addicts Guide.

What are you reading this month?

  1. I loved The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, too! Will have to put the new Annie Barrows book on hold when it gets to our library.

A nice stack of books - happy reading!

  2. Great books! I really wish I would have listened to Yes, Please instead of reading. I have pretty much started listening to all the memoirs I want to read now because I love having the author read them esecially when it is someone funny. Enjoy!

  3. I was so excited to hear about Annie Barrows' new book. I can't wait to read it! And I really need to get to Cinder one of these days...I hear so many good things about this series.

    1. Yes you do! The Lunar Chronicles are so good. Wait until Winter is out and then you can binge. :)

  4. Yay! I like several of these. Graceling was quite good (although I don't feel like the rest of the trilogy held up), but really, it can totally be read as a standalone, which is nice!

    1. I'm more than half way through Graceling and I'm liking the world but finding the story kind of slow. I'm not sure I'll read the sequels. We'll see. I do love a good series, so I may not be able to resist.

  5. I'm reading THE TRUTH ACCORDING TO US right now and struggling a bit. I'm over half way, but just am not loving it as much as I loved Guernsey. I need to just buckle down and finish so I can move on to something else!

    2. Oh, no is right - I hope it picked up for you. I didn't love it as much as Guernsey, but I did still love it.

And Kate I hope you liked it!

    3. I'm enjoying it. I had to switch to audio because I didn't finish the book in time - had to return it to the library. I'm on a pause again now because I'm reading Go Set a Watchman, and they're too similar. I was getting confused. I'll pick it up again later this week.
