First Day of School: Kindergarten

I was so sure Christopher wouldn't sleep at all last night. He was so excited! He has been counting down to kindergarten since he was about 3 years old. Luckily, he went right to sleep and slept through to 6:11 AM. Then he came into our room to snuggle and fell asleep again in my spot. My alarm was set to go off at 6:15 AM, so I got up a couple minutes early.

I wanted to be up and ready for the day before Christopher's alarm went off at 7:00 AM. We practiced with the alarm last week. When it goes off, he needs to get himself dressed and come downstairs for breakfast. This morning he was dressed and ready well before the alarm went off.

He didn't quite understand that he couldn't go to school until the bus came at 8:05 AM. It felt like a very long morning. We finally went outside for pictures around 7:45 AM. That took about 5 minutes.

He picked this outfit out himself last night. That was his homework for the day. We practiced the afternoon routine yesterday, including homework. I admit that I put this shirt on the top of the pile inside his drawer hoping he'd pick it. I might not have picked the cutoff shorts, but whatever. He's 5.

Finally at 7:55 AM we went out to wait for the bus.

We messed up the bus stop, but when the bus finally came he walked confidently towards it.

I'll be thinking of him all day, hoping that he remembers where his snack is, that he gives the important paperwork to his teacher (Mrs. Schmalz), that he's having a good time. But mostly I am excited for him. He is so ready for this day.

And I love that he's starting school on September 1st. It's almost like he's going to Hogwarts! :)

  2. Oh how cute!!! What a big day. I have 2 more years until then. The whole bus thing gives me anxiety for some reason. Great pictures and hope he had a great day!!

    1. Yeah, I had always been against the bus until this summer. My husband started working from home in May, and it just made a lot of sense. They won't let him off the bus unless someone is waiting for him which is nice. And he has a 6th grade bus buddy that helps him on and off, and she sat with him today. I'm thinking babysitter! :)

  3. Isn't it wonderful how excited they are at that age? That starts to wear off by the time they reach me (I teach fourth grade). Hope he had a wonderful day!

    1. It is! That's too bad your kids aren't as excited. How'd your first day go? Did you start back with the kids yet?
