Books I plan to read in January

Today I am joining The Deliberate Reader in sharing the books I plan to read this month.

I did pretty well with reading last month despite the holiday craziness. I finished 6 of the 7 books I had planned for December. I am still hoping to squeeze in Americanah sometimes this month or next month. I also finished 3 other unplanned books.

I got several books for Christmas, but because of other books I had planned, I won't be reading any of those books quite yet. Instead I'll be reading the following 8 books.

George by Alex Gino
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library.
Why did I get it: I know I said I was done with middle grade books, but when I read Ashley's review on yAdult Review, I knew I had to read it ASAP. I didn't intend for that to be 5 months later.

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library.
Why did I get it: It's my book club pick for my kindergarten moms' book club.

The Things We Keep by Sally Hepworth
How did I get it: I'll be reading it on NetGalley.
Why did I get it: I love the cover and the description sounded really interesting. I want to read more ARCs in 2016.

The Anatomical Shape of a Heart by Jenn Bennett
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library.
Why did I get it: It's my YA Book Club selection for this month. I've been wanting to read it since I read Jen's review at YA Romantics back in October.

In Place of Never by Julie Anne Lindsey
How did I get it: I got it from NetGalley.
Why did I get it: I was so intrigued by the description. I love stories about sisters.

Second House from the Corner by Sadeqa Johnson
How did I get it: Another one from NetGalley. Clearly I went a little overboard!
Why did I get it: I love the cover and the description. It's similar to the type of story I was telling with Playground Dad.

This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library.
Why did I get it: This book has been on my TBR list since December 2013. Jennifer E. Smith is on my author challenge list. I am so happy to finally be getting to this book.

The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler
How did I get it: I own this book.
Why did I get it: I am going to be re-reading this book as part of my re-read challenge. I've been wanting to watch this movie again lately, so I'll read the book and then watch it. We'll see how I feel about it this time. I think I've read it twice before. I know the movie very well, but I can't remember the nuances of the book.

What are you planning to read this month?

  1. Can't wait to see your thoughts on Everything I Never Told You. I plan on reading Carry On, Sustained, Fates and Furies, The Mystery of Hollow Places. Not sure what else. Hope you enjoy them all!

    1. I started Everything I Never Told You yesterday. Book club is on January 10th, so I need to breeze through it. It's not what I thought so far, but I'm only on chapter 3. We'll see.

I hope you enjoy Carry On. I haven't read the other 3 you mentioned. I look forward to your reviews.

  2. Great list. I have Everything I never told You, also. I plan on reading it soon.

    1. I've heard mixed reviews. I'm only 40 pages in so far. Too early to tell. :)

  3. I'm reading Bellweather Rhapsody with my book club this month and The Year of Miss Agnes with the kiddos. I have been struggling to read at night so far this month but hopefully that picks up and I'll be able to read a couple other books this month also.

    1. I haven't heard of Bellweather Rhapsody. Will you review it when you finish? I have The Year of Miss Agnes out from the library, but I'll probably end up reading it by myself (if I read it). I'm guessing it'll be a struggle just to get Christopher to listen to the Arctic picture books. :)

Good luck with night reading. I hope you can get some more books in!
