Kid Lit: I Really Like Slop

I Really Like Slop (Elephant & Piggie #24) by Mo Willems

Goodreads Summary:
Gerald is careful. Piggie is not.
Piggie cannot help smiling. Gerald can.
Gerald worries so that Piggie does not have to.

Gerald and Piggie are best friends. In I Really Like Slop!, Piggie invites Gerald to try her favorite food . . . slop. But Gerald is not so sure he's going to like it. At all.

Background:
We love Elephant and Piggie in our house. We own 7 of the books, and we've read all of the others from the library. I saw this new book at Barnes and Noble at Christmas time, and I knew we needed to read it ASAP.

My Thoughts:
This book is classic Elephant and Piggie. As always, I love the use of caps, larger font, and exclamation points to show emotion. It's kind of a strange subject, but it's still really cute.

Piggie wants Gerald to try his favorite food, slop. It smells awful, so Gerald is nervous to try it. But he loves Piggie, so he wants to do the nice thing and try it anyway.

What a perfect topic for kids! My son is a very reluctant eater, so this book was easy for us to relate to. If only he'd really try things as bravely as Gerald did.

We laughed a little, but not as much as other Elephant and Piggie books. It's definitely worth reading, but perhaps (gasp!) Christopher is getting a little old for these books.

My Rating: 4 Stars

    1. Oh yes! Definitely. You and the kids will LOVE them. Some of the better ones are There's a Bird on Your Head, Listen to My Trumpet, and Watch Me Throw the Ball. But really, they're all good and worth reading over and over again!
