Books I'll be reading in August

I read 6 of the 7 books that I planned to read in July. Our family book club meeting was canceled, and as I hadn't started I Am Malala yet, I skipped it in favor of some recent library pickups. I made little progress on the books I missed in June (other than The Long Game), so they're on my "catch up" list for now.

I managed to finish 9 other books though - 2 were read alouds with Christopher. They count, right?

For August, I am hoping to finish 6 books from my ARC August list, but I'm also planning to read these 8 other books. Another ambitious month, I know.

Because I Love You by Tori Rigby
How did I get it: I was approved for it on NetGalley.
Why did I get it: I read this review on Heartscent Reads back in May when it released, so I was excited to see it still on NetGalley last month.

The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson
How did I get it: I borrowed it from the library. It's my Family Book Club selection.
Why did I get it: I've wanted to read this one since reading Grace's review on Rebel Mommy Book Blog back in May. I suggested it to the family at our June meeting.

Dear Mother by Angela Marsons
How did I get it: I
Why did I get it: I

Spontaneous by Aaron Starmer
How did I get it: I got an ARC at BEA.
Why did I get it: I didn't include this book in ARC August because it's one I'll definitely be reading. It was one of the books I was most excited about after BEA.

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent
How did I get it: I borrowed the audio book from the library.
Why did I get it: It's the September selection for The Deliberate Reader online book club. Discussion starts on 9/1, so I have to read it this month.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by John Tiffany & Jack Thorne
How did I get it: My pre-ordered copy arrived from Amazon on Monday.
Why did I get it: It's Harry Potter! Jim and I will be reading this book together. I'm hoping we might be able to start tonight.

Swear on This Life by Renee Carlino
How did I get it: I pre-ordered the Kindle version.
Why did I get it: I loved Before We Were Strangers, and I want to be able to devour this one as soon as it's released on the 9th.

Boy, 9, Missing by Author
How did I get it: I was approved on NetGalley.
Why did I get it: I can't resist a book about child-related trauma. It's one of my auto-read topics, remember?

What are you planning to read this month?

I'm linking up with The Deliberate Reader again this month for her "New on the Stack" series.

On the blog last year...

Books I plan to read in August (2015)

  1. I can't wait to see what you think of The Art of Being Normal. Burial Rites is one i have had my eye on so looking forward to your review. I loved Swear on This Life but I have seen a lot of people not loving it as much. Hope you enjoy it!!

    1. I'm in the middle of The Art of Being Normal right now, and I am really enjoying it. I didn't realize it was British.

Burial Rites wasn't even on my radar, but I'm trying to at least read Sheila's fiction picks for her online book club. I got it on audio, so hopefully it will be a good one.

I have only heard good things about Swear on This Life so far. I am planning to start it right away when I get it on my phone on Tuesday. :)

  2. Cursed Child arrived at my house yesterday! I haven't finished it yet, but I can't wait to hear what you think.

    1. Jim came home early last night, and I thought maybe we could start it, but he played video games online with a friend instead. Hopefully tonight! :)

  3. I could plan ahead what I'm going to read! I'd just end up completely changing my mind because I'm such a mood reader lol. Looks like you have good books planned though! I really like the cover of Spontaneous, and of course I'm curious about the Cursed Child. Haven't quite decided I'll read it, but I hope you enjoy it!

    1. We did start Cursed Child last night, and I'm still a little unsure about it. We only read 4 scenes though.

I pick a lot of books for the month, so I can still mood read within the books I've selected. I find it helps keep me on track, and I've become less of a mood read since I started planning like this. :)

  4. The only one I've heard of is Burial Rites (and Harry Potter). Definitely some great reading ahead. I hope you enjoy Harry Potter. I have never gotten into those books. Not for me.

    1. I started Burial Rites this morning. It's not something I would ever have chosen for myself. I like that about book clubs. They make you read outside of your comfort zone.

We're only 70 pages in to the new HP. My husband and I are both HUGE fans of the series, so it's fun to have a new book to read together. So far it's interesting, but I'm holding off on judging until I see where the story is going.
