Goodreads Summary:
Even dragons can’t resist a good story…

Even though Leo would rather sit at home and read, his parents send him out into the world in the hopes that Leo will become a famous knight. But when Leo comes up against the land’s most fearsome beasts, he soon discovers that scary monsters enjoy a good book as much as anyone…

My Thoughts:
This book is perfect for bookworm parents to read to their children. In this story, Leo is a knight who doesn't like to fight. He loves to read. When his parents force him to go on a quest to tame a dragon, he uses a very unconventional method to tame the dragon and a few other beasts along the way.

The rhyming stanzas in this book are a little clunky at times, but the terrific illustrations and the wonderful story make up for the awkward language. I was cheering for Leo from the first page. This book is a little wordy, so it's probably best for ages 4-6.

I loved the messages - both solving problems without fighting and the joy of reading. And the sight of a tiny mouse in armor with a tiny sword and shield were just too cute. Such a fun read!

My Rating: 4 stars

  1. "Scary monsters enjoy a good book as much as anyone…" well I'm hooked. The artwork looks amazing, I wonder if Leo likes the Serendipity books with illustrations by Robin James? Maybe he should try reading the Dream Tree.
