Princess Penelopea Hates Peas: A Tale of Picky Eating and Avoiding Catastropeas by Susan D. Sweet and Brenda Miles
Published on February 1, 2016.
Penolopea lives in Capital Pea where peas are plentiful and popular. The problem is that Penolopea hates peas! So she comes up with a plan to make them disappear only leading to a catastropea of epic portions. Eventually, Penolopea grows her own plant and tastes one perfect pea. Turns out, she likes peas after all!
This book is an excellent resource for parents dealing with picky eaters. It's a fun story of Princess Penelopea who's kingdom is full of peas. No matter what her parents try, Penelopea refuses to even try peas. After her attempt to hide her uneaten peas fails (a twist on the Princess and the Pea), the king and queen order all of the peas out of the country. Penelopea finds a lone pea and throws it out the window to get rid of it. It begins to grow and when it grows peas of its own, Penelopea eats them to get rid of them once and for all. She is surprised to learn that she actually likes peas, especially after eating more and more of them.
Picky eaters will relate to this story, and the end notes give parents lots of great advice on how to broaden their children's horizons when it comes to eating. I may have to try some of these tips with my 6 year old because he has a very limited pallet.
